Mackerel are one of the fish that my family catches during our summers on Exploits Island. They're feisty (and tasty!) and I've always loved the shimmering rainbow of colours on their skin.

Shoegazing

There aren't many shoes more iconic than Converse All Stars! I've had these shoes for over 15 years and they've been a lot of places with me, including countless concerts. The painting's name is a nod to the Shoegaze genre of music of the 1980s and 1990s, where musicians were often detached and looking down at their feet during shows.

I made this piece as a gift for a dear friend when she earned her masters degree. While she was attending classes and writing, I was teaching myself to paint by reading books and watching countless YouTube videos. To this day, we are both making very good use of our learning time.
